Larval debridement therapy (LDT) is used clinically to treat non-healing ulcers, especially in patients with underlying vascular issues. LDT promotes healing by inhibiting bacterial growth, removing necrotic tissue, lowering the inflammatory response, and promoting healing through formation of granular tissue. To further increase the utility of LDT, our lab has generated transgenic strains of L. sericata that express factors that should more strongly inhibit bacterial growth in the wound and promote healing.
